Samantha’s Review of Soneva Kiri, Thailand
Travel Specialist Samantha recently spent three nights at eco-luxe Soneva Kiri in Koh Kood, Thailand and this is her snapshot review…
Soneva Kiri is a luxe barefoot tropical island destination, catering best to families and groups of friends traveling together. A short 90-minute private 8-seater plane ride from Bangkok. The journey is smooth with an exciting landing on a short 850m strip on an adjacent island from which you will take a 5 minute speed boat ride to the jetty.

The 38 villas ranging from 1 to 6 bedrooms are designed to blend seamlessly into the island—they are remarkably large and have all the modern cons. Each villa has a private pool and Mr or Mrs Friday, who will be your personal host throughout the stay; you are encouraged to take your shoes off as you arrive and enjoy the ‘no shoes, no news’ philosophy. As the property is quite large, you will also receive your own buggy.
The dining options are plentiful and if you are headed here on a wellness program then it will take some collaboration with the wellness team to ensure you stay on track or you may like to plan a few indulgences during your stay. There are many activities to join in as well to keep you busy, most days start with a Pilates or yoga class and for early risers the gym is open from 6am and there are also dedicated jogging tracks, best before the heat of the day sets in.
There are many families enjoying the facilities during my short stay, including the dedicated kids club ‘The Den’ with lots of creative and adventure-based activities for the children, and parents are entertained with excursions to the local fishing village, swimming under waterfalls and snorkelling in the nearby national park. At night, you might enjoy an outdoor movie, star gazing or a late dinner or relax into your comfortable bed for an early night. Popular with celebrities and royalty, this hotel has something for everyone including a host of wellness programs. On site wellness director Marc, formally from Ananda and his partner Melody head the healthy programs alongside Spa Manager Rachael.
Up to 40% of the food is grown on site and you can join in an eco-tour to see the operation in action, the wellness programs include:
Your results are tracked and can be tracked at other Six Senses spas, so after a stay here you might consider a visit to Six Senses Duoro Valley, Six Senses Kapalanka or Zighy Bay in Oman.

Notes & Recommendations
► This is not a dedicated wellness hotel and is not recommended for solo travellers or those seeking solitude. This destination is popular with families and the squeals of joy and delight can often be heard throughout the property.
► Choose to disconnect, you’ll find the option to switch off your Wi-Fi in the villa and a library full of books to fill your time between the inclusions on your program and the daily schedule of activities.
► There is a lot of temptation from the ice cream parlour to chocolate and cheese rooms, but healthy meals can be prepared for you and served throughout the hotel including in your villa.
► Plan to indulge a little, perhaps at the beginning or end of your stay. There are often celebrity chefs in-house and they have a one of a kind tree top dining experience.
► Laundry service is available, and you’ll find an international adaptor in the desk drawer.
► Time in Koh Kood is 1 hour ahead of Bangkok time, remember to set your clock on arrival and again on departure to avoid any missed connections.
