How annoying is it, when you’ve had a busy day, have another one ahead but just can’t switch off? It’s so frustrating! So if you have a tough time falling asleep or you toss and turn in the middle of the night then its time to take action and that doesn’t mean popping a pill. Instead, I advise you to create a bedtime routine that includes stretching your limbs. Nearly all of us are guilty of not stretching – me included, so instead I’ve started to take ten minutes to do this quick routine before bed. Not only does it make me more relaxed, but it also helps to keep my muscles flexible, so I’m less likely to experience discomfort or workout-related injuries. I also find that it makes me put my iPad down, which can stimulate your brain and keep you awake at night. I know, it’s so hard to switch off these days!

Welcome to the world of work; deadlines, meetings, emails and calls. I'm a very physically active person but with my busy schedule it is difficult at times to stick to healthy choices. I find it hard to keep to regular eating times when working long days and usually opt for something quick to eat at my desk. Sometimes I have skipped lunch altogether just so that I can finish a task that needs my full attention which is not good. This only slows down my concentration and productivity levels. Furthermore, my random eating habits do not help when I'm trying to maintain my healthy lifestyle.

Yoga offers us wonderful benefits: simply put - improved flexibility, enhanced strength, defined body tone and the chance of relaxation - even if it's only ten minutes' peace and quiet at the end of a class (and for some, a little snooze time!) However the more you practise, the more you'll learn that yoga is so much more than this. Yoga, amongst many other things, can help build self-esteem and confidence and is a brilliant tool to cultivate inner calm and peace, self-acceptance and self-worth.

With our fast paced, digitally-induced lives leaving us little time to breathe, let alone think straight, it’s little wonder that stress is are becoming a modern day pandemic.

When we experience stress or anxiety, our sympathetic nervous systems are automatically triggered; our heart beats harder, our brow and palms perspire and adrenaline pumps around our bodies as we enter fight or flight mode – an innate, primal response to aid our survival.

  • Good Gut Feeling: Digestive Health

The whole subject of a healthy gut is one of opinion and counter opinion. It is a complex subject that whole departments in hospitals are designated to. Huge amounts of money is spent on research and even more on remedies and tablets to try and quell the feeling of heartburn and gut ache. My understanding is that the two are very separate conditions. Heartburn and indigestion, which 40 percent of Americans suffer from, often occurs after eating when the acid secreted from the gut to break down food travels back up the lower throat which gives the feeling of heartburn.

Let’s look at our good gut feeling through the eyes of Chinese Medicine. Gut problems are awful. They can be painful, embarrassing, cause terrible bloating, ruin your confidence and worse. Severe problems cause great deterioration in health and can be life threatening.  When the digestive system is upset we are unable to absorb vital nutrients and become weak and vulnerable to further imbalances and illnesses.

The processing of this food uses a staggering 9 times the amount of nerves than are present in the brain AND spinal cord. For this reason, scientists dub this Enteric Nervous System (ENS) the body’s “Second Brain”.

I’m not old by any means, but the thought of turning 30 does scare me.

I’ve already noticed that my muscles are tighter than they used to be and I recently had to give up alcohol because I couldn’t handle it like I could when I was in my 20’s. For me, there is nothing worse than waking up with a foggy head and having to drag my sorry ass to the gym whilst feeling sluggish and bloated after a night out - I’m definitely getting too sensible in my old age.
