On route from Melbourne through to London, our Travel Specialist Samantha made a short stopover for an energising three night stay in Milan where she visited Ti Sana, a boutique rural health retreat specialising in detox, weight-loss and holistic wellness holidays with a focus on sustainable lifestyle changes.
You will find Ti Sana set amid a lovely rural hamlet, a gorgeous 18th Century building that has been converted into a charming health retreat surrounded by lush rolling countryside with custom built spa, offering a boutique and personalised service. With just 22 rooms, all clients receive personalised service and all the team are incredibly personable, taking the time to get to speak with you each day and guide you on your way. Special thank you to health coach Mario, trainer Elena and the Australian team in the kitchen Kat and Malhena.
The food each day was a delight, each meal and snack carefully planned for nutritional content, detoxifying properties and taste. Breakfast was my favourite meal—designed to kick-start the body with good stressors, we enjoyed healthy breakfast’s sweets rich in carbohydrates and natural sugars, accompanied by luscious fresh fruit including local figs and yummy smoothies. Lunch was plentiful and dinner a smaller affair both focused on protein and vegetables to help lower cortisol levels for the day, aiding good digestion, increased metabolism and restorative sleep.
Meals are mainly vegan so meat lovers need not be discouraged but find they enjoy a few days of healthy light spa cuisine. We still got to enjoy pizza, pasta and ice-cream without the guilt! Guests are also reminded to keep well hydrated, to provide the body with adequate water to function and detox; alkalised water is available throughout the retreat.
The spa offered a serene centre where you could easily while a way a day, with saunas, steam room and a hydrotherapy circuit, perfect for a spa holiday. Guests are encouraged to plan at least two and a half hours to enjoy all of the amenities which include:
They offer a range of therapies using natural skincare products from Pevonia. All treatments focus on energising, relaxing or slimming.
Ti Sana also has a medical centre - they are renowned for their scientific approach to health programs. During my stay I also went there for a range of health and medical consultations.
Each day includes a minimum of two classes, beginning with an energising class in the morning such as a short HIIT burst or circuit training focused on intense cardio or building muscle, then after breakfast a brisk walk outside enjoying the natural beauty all around. In the evening we are invited to slow down with a more soothing class like yoga, stretching or Tai Chi to reduce stress and relax. These are held in the centre of the hotel, overlooking the grounds in a spacious group training room, designed like the cuisine to kick start the body in the morning and relax it into the evening in line with your natural rhythms.
There is also a small but well-equipped gym offering a range of equipment including free weights, stationary bikes and treadmills. You can also make use of the complimentary on-site bikes and head out for a run outdoors with more challenging terrain and more spectacular vistas.
Guests seeking personalised attention and an opportunity to focus on holistic long-term well-being, wanting to make a change to their health. Ti Sana is fully equipped with the technology and knowledge to show you how to perform at your best. While great for a short rejuvenating break, and you can learn a lot in three days, I would recommend a longer stay for maximum impact.
There are a range of programs on offer including detox, de-stress and insomnia, so their retreat will appeal to many wellness travellers:
Each guest leaves with a USB full of advice and a plan unique to them, so you take your learnings back into your everyday life and feel the effects for much longer than your stay. I also took home some basic Italian, a reminder to take care of myself, a focus on healthy breakfast and new mantra to be happy, it’s good for your health!
Detox before you arrive to ease your way and make sure you enjoy every minute of your stay. I also really loved the daily walk, especially along the river as it was a great chance to view the surrounding area and breathe in the beautifully refreshing country air.
