Interview with a Personal Trainer
Why did you want to become a personal trainer?
I get a feeling of satisfaction from helping people become fitter and healthier to have a better quality of life.
What do you think a personal trainer's greatest responsibility?
It is very important to understand clients' needs and allow them to feel at ease with you, so you can help them to achieve the desired results.
What areas do you see people lacking in strength the most?
I believe most people struggle with their diet and nutrition, it can be difficult to make the right choices. Also many people find it hard to find the time to exercise.
What advice would you give to improve someone's nutrition?
I always recommend eating a balanced diet; this should include eating small meals at regular intervals. I will make a plan for my clients and encourage them to eat healthy.
Tell us which foods we should steer clear of to stay healthy?
It is important to stay away from animal fats, saturated fats, processed sugar products and fried foods.
What do you enjoy the most out of being a personal trainer?
I love the challenge to help people change their body and lifestyle to become healthy, more positive and happy.
Tell us your top 3 health and fitness tips?
- Eat small, regular meals with plenty of water
- Take regular intensive exercise (3-5 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes)
- Get a good nights sleep, every night
How important is flexibility for someone's healthy?
Flexibility is very different from fitness and health, not being able to touch your toes is not an indication that you are unhealthy. Flexibility will help reduce the pain from a hard training through stretching.
How do you motivate someone who lacks enthusiasm and confidence?
I listen to my clients to understand their requirements and try to get to know them more personally. I set realistic targets and motivate accordingly to achieve their individual goals.
Do you have a favourite fitness class or workout and why?
I recommend Functional Training - a high intensity, rapid results workout that uses muscle confusion techniques to burn a lot of calories and quickly tone and strengthen muscles.
